뇌전증이 있는 소아청소년(0~18세)들이나 그들의 부모들과 가정을 도와주는 방법은 수 10년 동안 어떤 것들이 있을까 많이 생각해 보았습니다.

뇌전증이 있는 아이들의 부모들은 왜 내 자녀가 뇌전증이 걸렸나 한탄하면서, 두려움, 분노, 죄악감, 슬픈 감정을 안고 사는 것이 보통입니다. 뇌전증 자녀를 양육하는 동안, 가정 기능이 파괴될 수도 있고, 경제적 파탄에 빠질 수도 있고, 부모들과 형제자매들이 우울증에 빠지거나, 정신병에 걸릴 수도 있습니다. 이런 만성 신경계 질환인 뇌전증이 있는 형제자매나 자녀를 둔 부모나 그의 형제자매들이, 뇌전증으로 발작하는 가족을 다른 사람들의 도움이 없이 수년 동안 또는 수십 년 동안 잘 돌봐 준다는 것은 참으로 어렵습니다.

하지만, 뇌전증이 있는 아이가 사는 그 마을, 그 사회, 그 나라와 모든 임상 전문가, 사회사업가, 교육자, 심리사, 정신․정서 전문가들이 뇌전증이 있는 자녀를 둔 부모와 손에 손을 잡고, 뇌전증 아이를 올바르게 진단·치료해, 사랑과 보살핌으로 그를 돌봐 주어야 하는 것은 의무이고, 권리입니다. 그의 부모나 그의 가족들에게만 그 자녀의 뇌전증을 치료하라고, 타산지석처럼 생각하는 것은 크게 잘못된 생각입니다. 그런 자녀를 둔 부모들과 형제자매들을 정신적·육체적·심리적·경제적으로 도와줄 수 있는 멋진 사회와 국가가 되어야 합니다.

이 책을 통해 뇌전증 소아청소년과 부모들이 희만을 갖고 행복하시기를 빕니다.

Presenting 『Pediatric Epilepsy (Epileptic) and Epilepsy 100 Questions and Answers』… Presenting 『Pediatric Epilepsy (Epileptic) and Epilepsy 100 Questions and Answers』… For decades, I have been thinking a lot about how to help children and adolescents (0-18 years old) with epilepsy, their parents, and their families. Parents of children with epilepsy usually live with feelings of fear, anger, guilt and sadness, lamenting why their child has epilepsy.

While parenting a child with epilepsy, family functioning can be disrupted, economic collapse can occur, and parents and siblings can become depressed or become mentally ill. It is very difficult for a sibling, a parent with a child, or a sibling with epilepsy, a chronic nervous system disease, to take care of a family member who has epilepsy seizures for years or even decades without the help of others.

However, the village, the society, the country where the child with epilepsy lives, the country and all clinical experts, social workers, educators, psychologists, and psychoemotional experts, hand in hand with parents of children with epilepsy, It is a duty and a right to properly diagnose and treat a child with illness and to look after him with love and care.

It is a terribly wrong idea to think that only his parents or his family should treat their child’s epilepsy. We must become a wonderful society and country that can help parents and siblings who have such children mentally, physically, psychologically and economically.
