태아 알코올 증후군과 임신 중 음주, Fetal alcohol syndrome and alcohol during pregnancy

 

  • 미국에서 연간 1만 2천 태아 알코올 증후군을 진단한다.
  • 임신 중 임신부가 섭취한 알코올이 태아의 건강에 지대한 영향을 준다.  알코올을 극소량 섭취한 임신부로부터 태어난 신생아들에게 태아 알코올 증후군이 생길 수 있다. 
  • 태아 알코올 증후군이 있던 신생아는 물론이고 자라는 동안 영유아기, 학령기 사춘기에도 정서, 정신, 신경 문제가 생길 수 있다 35 & 36 . 
  • 임신 중 임신부가 소량 알코올을 섭취해도 태아의 뇌가 영구적으로 손상될 수 있다. 
  • 성인이 된 이후에도 태아 알코올 증후군으로 신경 발달 이상 등이 생길 수 있다. 
  • 임신 중 알코올을 남용한 임신부들에게 태어난 신생아들의 10%에게 심한 태아 알코올 증후군이 생기고 신생아들의 30~40%에게는 경미한 선천성 알코올 증후군이 생긴다. 36 
  • 선천성 알코올 증후군의 증상 징후는 다양하고  심한 경우, 임신 중 유산될 수 있다. 
  • 선천성 알코올 증후군이 있는 소아청소년에게 이상한 안모, 성장지연, 중추신경 이상, 소아 학습장애, 기억력 이상 등 증상 징후가 있을 수 있고 주의력결핍 장애 및, 또는 과도활동 장애, 언어발육이상, 청력이상 등의 증상 징후도 나타날 수 있다.
  • 경미한 선천성 알코올 증후군을 가진 학령기 아이들이 학교에서 교육 받는데도 지장이 받는다. 부모와 자녀관계, 또래들이나 동료와의 관계에 문제가 생길 수 있다. 
  • 성인이 된 이후 직장 생활을 할 때 직장 동료들과의 관계에도 문제가 생길 수 있다.
  • 부부관계에도 문제가 생길 수 있다. 
  • 소아 행동, 언어 문제가 생길 수 있고 
  • 성인 정신심리 문제가 많이 생길 수 있다. 
  • 학교 정규 교육 과정을 끝내지 못할 수 있다. 
  • 실업자가 되기 쉽고
  • 범법행위를 하는 경우도 많다.
  • 태아 알코올 증후군에 관련된 정신적 육체적 문제 등이 있는지 알아서 그에 따라 적절히 양육하고 교육시킨다.
  • 행동교정, 육아훈련으로 치료를 한다.
  • 태아 알코올 증후군에 관한 특별한 치료방법이 없다.

Fetal alcohol syndrome and alcohol during pregnancy

• 12,000 cases of fetal alcohol syndrome are diagnosed annually in the United States.

• Alcohol consumed by a pregnant woman during pregnancy has a profound effect on the health of the fetus. Newborns born to pregnant women who consume very little alcohol can develop fetal alcohol syndrome.

• Emotional, mental, and neurological problems can develop in newborns with fetal alcohol syndrome, as well as during infancy and school-age puberty 35 & 36 while growing up.

• Even small amounts of alcohol by a pregnant woman during pregnancy can permanently damage the fetus’ brain.

• Even after becoming an adult, fetal alcohol syndrome can cause neurodevelopmental abnormalities.

• Severe fetal alcohol syndrome occurs in 10% of newborns born to pregnant women who abuse alcohol during pregnancy and mild congenital alcohol syndrome in 30-40% of newborns. 36

• Symptoms of Congenital Alcohol Syndrome The symptoms are varied and, in severe cases, can lead to miscarriage during pregnancy.

• Children and adolescents with congenital alcohol syndrome may have symptoms such as abnormal facial expression, growth retardation, central nervous system abnormality, learning disability, memory abnormality, etc. Symptomatic signs may also be present.

• School-age children with mild congenital alcohol syndrome also have difficulties in schooling. Problems may arise in relationships with parents and children, or with peers or co-workers. • You may have problems with your relationships with your co-workers as you work your way into adulthood.

• Marital problems may also arise.

• Children may have behavioral and language problems and

• Many adult psychosocial problems can occur.

• May not be able to complete the regular school curriculum.

• easy to become unemployed

• There are many cases of criminal activity.

• Know if there are any mental and physical problems related to Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, and raise them appropriately and educate them accordingly.

• Behavior modification and parenting training are provided for treatment.

• There is no specific treatment for Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

• Women who are pregnant, or of childbearing potential, should not drink a drop of alcohol and should not consume alcohol-containing drugs or food (source; AAP August 2004).
